Home / 384th After WWII / The 384th Bomb Group Veterans Signing Project / Olen "Reb" Grant 8
Olen "Reb" Grant was severely injured when his aircraft was shot down on 6 September 1943. He, and two others, were assigned to fly in that aircraft, with pilot James Armstrong, on this mission at the last minute. Although his crewmates tried to assist him, he was too severely wounded to bail out, and he was basically left for dead. Fate, however, intervened, bringing the crippled bomber to a (relatively) gentle landing in an open field! His German captors treated his injuries, and after a time in Stalag 17B near Krems, Austria, was repatriated to the USA in late 1944. The wing panel host for this event was Amy (Mazer) Meighan, daughter of Nathan "Mike" Mazer. Olen Grant signing on 22 April, 2014 at Hill Aerospace Museum Chapel, Hill Air Force Base. Ogden, Utah. Mr. Grant's signature next to his pilot's signature James Armstrong. Amy Meighan was the wing panel host.
