545th BS - John Hunt Crew - John H. Hunt, Jr. crew. Photo taken after their second mission (#167) to Merseburg Germany on 7/29/1944. They didn't make it back to GU, but landed on the coast. Inscription on reverse reads: 2nd Mission over Merrsberg – Landed on one engine on English coast. British are putting out fire.
Per Mark Meehl, the a/c may have landed at Beccles, which had an airbase built by the US but was not used much by them, called Ellough Airfield.
Photo contributed by Todd Touton, son of co-pilot William Touton.
