William F. Touton and 42-97941, Marion
November 16, 1944 Runway Accident - William F. Touton smiling and smoking a cigar after the November 16, 1944 runway collision between 42-97941, Marion, and Lt. Loren Green’s crew aboard 43-38721. Due to bad weather, they had to land away at Stratford. Green’s crew landed long and their right wing and nose clipped Marion’s left wing on the runway. The other men in the photo are presumed, but not verified, to be others on the Marion that day: John H. Hunt, Jr. (pilot), Albert Bell (navigator), Lawrence J. Janovic, Jr. (navigator), Robert L. Wehe (bombardier), Paul W. Fuerstenau (radio operator), Jesus G. T. Ramos (engineer/top turret gunner), Blaine S. Schultz (ball turret gunner), and Clifford L. Linn (flexible gunner).
