S/Sgt Sam Park Duncan, Jr
From his youngest son, George:
He served with the 384th bomb group, 545th squadron at Grafton-Underwood, approx. March-thru-April 1944.
Dad's last mission was as top turret gunner aboard 42-37885, JD*D FROSTIE, piloted by 2nd Lt. Virgil Broyhill, 24 April 44.
He became a [internee] in Switzerland that day.
Update 2010-02-17: In the past two years, I've learned from Navigator Guy Earle, Jr., that Sam Duncan escaped in the more common method... he was taken across a lake and across the French border to a safe house operated by French Underground... then by truck to Bron Airport, Lyon France... picked up by a C-47 and flown back to England.
Next assigned as Gunnery Instructor for B-29 crews training in Florida, until war's end.
