Captain Russell A. Sanders began his service at AAF Station 106/Grafton Underwood with Detachment A, 304th Service Group in January 1943. He was reassigned to the 545th Bomb Squadron on 1 December 1943 as an administrative officer and was promoted to Major on 2 April 1944. He was Killed in Action on 8 May 1944 flying with the James E Foster Crew as an Observer. He was the oldest, born in 1901, staff officer within the 384th Bomb Group who was Killed in Action.
