B-17F 42-3218 JD*R, "Doris Mae"
| Description |
: |
Crew: Unknown
Aircraft: B-17F - note the "O. U. BOBCAT"/"W. B. K. Jr" below nose and (possible) "Doris Mae" on right side of nose.
Col. Hale: "I know none of these people by name, but am sure they were members of the 384th Bomb Group."
Mark Meehl - 23 Jan 2007: OU Bobcat refers to the Ohio University Bobcats, so presumably Bill Kinney Jr. (or the navigator) was an illustrious alum of OU! I can’t find any pictures of the Lloyd Armstrong crew to see if that is the crew in front of the OU Bobcat inscribed plane. The plane could be 42-3218 Doris Mae as Armstrong flew that plane a great deal on the crew’s early missions. I can’t find a Doris Mae photo either.
TONY - 24 Jan 2007: WBK Jr WILLIAM B KINNEY Jr. Bombardier of the Armstrong crew. The only original 545th Sq crew to complete thier tour. OU BOBCAT is a member of the Ohio University Sports club. The ship is MOST probably 42-3218 DORIS MAE. Thanks for the assistance Mark!
[Admin] It should be remembered that crew photos were taken using any available aircraft, not necessarily the one "assigned" to the crew pictured. |
